Matured initially in first fill former Bourbon barrels for seven years this single malt is then transferred to smaller American oak quarter casks for an additional two years. These smaller casks ensure a higher ratio of wood to spirit, supercharging this cask strength juice with delicious, oaky flavours. A bothy, for reference, is a kind of communal shelter that offers warmth and safety to travellers in remote Scotland. Apparently a few were even used by illicit distillers back in the day…
