Description
Maretti Langhe Rosso 2016 was a very fine follow-on from the exceptional 2015 vintage. The conditions for nearly all red varieties were very good enabling a generally larger harvest for the majority of growers. Plentiful rain in early spring suddenly became a very warm, dry growing season. Almost perfect weather. The resultant fruit displayed a fleshy ripeness but with possibly a fresher, more bracing natural acidity than the prior year. A firmer, grippy tannin profile is also a 2016 vintage hallmark. Fragrant, lifted fruits of the forest overlaid by notes of dried herbs, some leather and aniseed. This is a medium weight wine, very well balanced with plush fruit character, sandy tannins and a lovely fresh clip of acidity delivering excellent Italian drinkability. This is a very approachable wine that will match brilliantly with food as well being great on its own.
