Description
An entry into Leroux’s reds that speaks with real Burgundy clarity and intent. The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge is far from a simple regional bottling; it’s drawn from a mosaic of parcels across the Cote, including village-level fruit from Vosne-Romanee, Volnay, Pommard, and the Hautes-Cotes de Beaune. These origins bring perfume, finesse, and structure, giving this cuvee remarkable depth and balance. The 2023 vintage delivers vivid expression with ripe red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry brightness lifted by subtle spice and floral notes. The palate is energetic and finely textured, with sapid tannins lending shape and persistence. Beneath the fruit lies a cool mineral thread, a quiet reflection of the limestone-rich soils from which the grapes are drawn. Fermentation included a portion of whole clusters for aromatic lift and fine-grained structure, followed by elevage in large oak foudres and older barrels, with only 10–15% new oak to preserve purity and transparency. Leroux’s restrained approach allows the wine to express the nuance of its diverse origins without heaviness or excess. The 2023 embodies the charm and precision of the vintage, a Pinot Noir that is open, pure, and effortlessly drinkable, while quietly hinting at the sophistication of its Cote d’Or pedigree.
