Product Description The Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz 2016 stands as Australia’s most revered single-vineyard wine, a benchmark of terroir expression and craftsmanship that bridges six generations of the Henschke family. First bottled in 1958, Hill of Grace is drawn from a small, historic vineyard opposite the Gnadenberg Lutheran Church in the Eden Valley, its name translating poetically to Hill of Grace.” The vineyard itself is a living museum of Australian viticulture. Ungrafted, dry-grown Shiraz vines, some planted in the 1860s, thrive in the loamy soils and deep red-brown earth over clay and decomposed granite. At 400 metres elevation, the site’s cool climate and long ripening season create wines of natural balance, dense yet lifted, structured yet graceful. Each of the pre-phylloxera vines, carefully nurtured by Prue Henschke’s biodynamic viticulture, yields only a handful of berries, concentrated in flavour and rich in heritage. The 2016 vintage was shaped by a warm, dry season followed by cool ripening conditions, yielding fruit of outstanding purity and poise. The resulting wine captures the paradox at the heart of Hill of Grace: power rendered with restraint, generosity balanced by grace. Tasting NotesNOSE– Profoundly complex.Layers of blackberry, mulberry and dark plum with notes of sage, black olive, dried herbs, five-spice, mocha and earth. Subtle touches of vanilla and smoke. PALATE– Concentrated yet graceful.A rich core of black and red berries framed by savoury spice and herbal depth. Oak is finely woven, with vibrant acidity and firm, textural tannins providing structure. FINISH– Long and enduring.Persistent flavours of fruit, spice and mineral complexity carry with lasting tannins that will soften and integrate over time.
