In 1822, Charles-Camille Heidsieck is born. This happy event took place 37 years after his grand-uncle founded the Champagne Heidsieck et Cie House. Little Charles grew up in the midst of grapes, loved by his mother, Emilie Henriot, and his sisters, in a family ruled by Reims traditions and Prussian rigour. Well-educated, he stands out for his integrity and elegance. At 29 years of age Charles took his destiny in hand and founded a House in his image. His audacity, adventures and the renown of his wines would make him a legend in his time. His distinctive aesthetic choices made the Maison unique and renowned amongst all others, or as was said: Typiquement Charles. In his area as well as today, to be Typiquement Charles means flouting convention, bowing to no influence, pushing the envelope and forgetting long-lasting steadfast relationships. Only seven cuvees of Blanc des Millenaires have seen the light of day: 1983, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2004, 2006 and 2007. These cuvees are truly exceptional, as they are made up solely of wines from the same year. These years are recognized as extraordinary by our cellar masters and selected with extreme care for their unusual maturation capacities. This unusual vintage, so befitting of Chardonnay, has a wonderful future ahead of it: Charles Heidsieck has chosen it as the seventh cuvee of Blanc des Millenaires and it is polar opposite from its predecessor of 2006. Because if every cuvee is the exclusive product of great Chardonnays from iconic terroirs, exceptional for their incomparable texture, aromatic complexity and ability to mature, each one will develop its own personality, linked to the organoleptic profile of its vintage year.
