Description
Craggy Range is a family owned winery established in 1997, and situated in the shadow of the spectacular Te Mata Peak in the premium wine growing area of Hawke’s Bay New Zealand. Craggy Range produces a collection of iconic wines from grapes grown on exceptional estates in Hawke’s Bay, Martinborough, and Marlborough, with an unrelenting focus on quality. From the stony, warm soils of the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay to the volcanic, clay soils of Te Muna Road in Martinborough, these exceptional vineyards produce wines with amazing aromatics, purity and complexity. Coastal proximity and clay soils characterise Kidnappers Chardonnay, shaping its distinctive profile. The cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, yields fresh, lighterstyle wines. Large-format barrels and a touch of tank fermentation preserve this freshness resulting in a flavour profile with a distinct saline thread. Aromas of lemon curd on toast, fresh-cut limes and white blossom, with a subtle minerality and hint of sea-spray. On the palate, preserved lemons and white-fleshed peaches are lifted by coastal salinity, bright acidity, and moreish, chalky texture. Fresh and vibrant, this wine balances energy with a concentrated, flavourful depth. This wine is influenced by the coastline near its namesake Cape Kidnappers, this Chardonnay is defined by its cool maritime climate. Delicately handled in a traditional Chablis-style, subtle oak frames a crisp, mineral-driven palate, with lifted aromatics and a refined saline finish.
