From a deep bench of silty soils in the heart of Felton Road’s Elms vineyard, the 2024 Block 3 Pinot Noir captures the depth and definition of this distinctive site. This parcel is known for its muscular structure and darker fruit profile, and in 2024 it delivered even greater intensity. Organically and biodynamically farmed, with no fining or filtration, the result is a wine that speaks clearly of origin, built to evolve. Vinified with 25 percent whole bunch and aged in 20 percent new French oak, the wine leads with dark cherry, leather and cacao overlaid with herbal spice. The tannins are integrated yet assertive, anchoring the depth of fruit and driving a long, seamless finish. The 2024 vintage’s slow, cool ripening preserved freshness, bringing focus and restraint to a wine with serious presence. An heroic pinot noir that, while carrying the Block 3 signature, has greater structure than usual. I put it to the test by tasting the wine over three days.
