Description

To the winemaker Anthony D’Anna, all the wines falling under Fratelli D’Anna represent what he likes and expects from the region and grape varietal. An idea came to him whilst reading Kermit Lynch’s Adventures of the Wine Route who on visiting vineyards and wineries, made offers to buy selected barrels to be finished off to his specifications. When D’Anna thinks of this, it takes the notion of importing wines you love from a region, one step further. In this instance, it is the ultimate expression of what he looks for in a Montalcino and Sangiovese. The last time the produced a Brunello was in 2012, and this is the third release under the Fratelli D’Anna lable since its first release in 2010. It’s light- to medium-weight and it’s charming with it. This really does have personality. Pencils, herbs, game meats, sweet-sour cherries, roasted nuts and perhaps even citrus flavours. It’s a fine-fingered wine, light but persuasive, built on its acidity, deceptively well structured as a whole. It also manages to be both clean and characterful. It is indeed a delight, though it will be better again in time. – Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, 93+ Points The Finer Details Style – Red Wine Varietal – Sangiovese Country – Italy Region – Brunello di Montalcino Vintage – 2016 Bottle Size – 750ml ABV – 14%
