Product Information: Delicious. A wine you can crack open today. The Primavera vineyard has always produced Giant Step’s most floral, red fruited and fragrant Pinot Noir. Hot to trot, with its berry sweetness, savoury herb flourishes and juicy crunch. Handpicked, fermented in a combination of small oak fermenters and stainless-steel open vats. Each clone was fermented and matured separately and is either fermented with 100% whole bunches included or 100% Destemmed. The MV6 was fermented as whole bunches in a seasoned oak vat, while the 115 and G clone were fermented as whole berries with a 4-day cold soak before the start of fermentation. The ferments spent between 10 – 14 days on skins, with gentle mixing throughout that time using gravity. The resulting blend is 15% Whole bunch fermented. All parcels completed malolactic fermentation and were then matured in French oak Barriques (225L) – 20% new, 80% seasoned – for nine months. The wine was not moved and kept in contact with its lees before blending in November. Bottled by gravity. No fining. No filtration. Maker: Since 1997, Giant Steps has built a reputation based on expressive wines with purity and finesse out of Yarra Valley. These are wines that reflect individual vineyard sites, located across the Yarra Valley from Tarrawarra to Gladysdale. Giant Steps was founded by wine industry pioneer Phil Sexton, who journeyed from Margaret River to Yarra Valley looking for the ideal site to cultivate pure and finessed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Eventually, Phil found his hallowed ground near Gruyere in the Sexton vineyard, which he planted in 1997 on the steep slopes of the Warramate Ranges. The name comes from John Coltrane’s album “Giant Steps”, which felt like a fitting choice given the steep slopes of the vineyard and Phil’s love of jazz. In 2003, Winemaker Steve Flamsteed came aboard, another muso, and the two set about producing a range of iconic Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that express a profound sense of place from six finite sites in Yarra Valley.
