Description
Kilikanoon was establised in 1997 when proprietor and winemaker Kevin Mitchell purchased the property of the same name in the hamlet of Penwortham in South Australia’s picturesque Clare Valley. Hailing from a long line of wine grape growers, Kevin now had the opportunity to turn the vision of creating his own wine brand into a reality. At Kilikanoon, their strong interest and respect for French varietals continues, with the release of their first straight Mataro. Often called by its French name, Mourvedre (they prefer the local Australian moniker), Mataro has been used by Kilikanoon since 2002, its terrific length and flavour profile instrumental in many fine GSM blends. As a single varietal, Mataro tends to be quite tarry and spicy by design, its firm yet gentle tannins are a vital piece of its personality.
