Description
Stephen Pannell is one of the most liked and respected winemakers in the business, loved also by a wine-drinking public looking for refreshing, aromatic white wines and reds that are approachable and moreish – in essence, wines that are serious while remaining irresistible to drink. The fruit is hand-harvested, crushed, and co-fermented in small open-top fermenters. It’s gently pressed and sent to puncheon for malolactic fermentation. Racked twice during extended maturation in large French oak vat before bottling in July 2020. The nose shows black cherry and red liquorice with sweet spice, terracotta, chinotto, musk lollies and rhubarb compote. The powerful and complex aromas are backed up by a flavourful medium-bodied palate. The tannins are entwined with the acidity and balanced with the mouthful of fruit and spice. The mid palate is sweet and fleshy but held in check by the tannins. The finish is generous and long. – Stephen Pannell, Winemaker The Finer Details Style – Red Wine Varietal – Tempranillo 53%, Touriga Nacional 47% Country – Australia Region – McLaren Vale, South Australia Vintage – 2019 Bottle Size – 750ml ABV – 14%
