Product Description: Precision, purity, and poise from Tasmania’s Coal River Valley. The Tolpuddle Chardonnay 2024 continues the estate’s unwavering focus on cool-climate expression, drawn from a single vineyard planted in 1988 on north-east facing slopes of light silica over sandstone. These lean, well-drained soils and the region’s long, dry growing season shape a Chardonnay of striking finesse and natural acidity. Each parcel is handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented as individual lots before maturation in French oak, bringing subtle texture without obscuring the wine’s mineral edge. Founded by Michael Hill Smith MW and Martin Shaw, Tolpuddle Vineyard has come to define modern Tasmanian Chardonnay. Their approach combines precision viticulture with minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard’s distinctive maritime influence to guide the final character. The 2024 vintage captures that philosophy in full—aromatic clarity layered with citrus, white stone fruit, and delicate oak nuance, underpinned by fine chalky structure. With each release, Tolpuddle reaffirms its place among Australia’s most important Chardonnay sites. The 2024 shows the assured refinement of a producer confident in both place and purpose, delivering a wine that is exacting, layered, and enduringly expressive of its southern Tasmanian origin. Tasting Notes NOSE – Citrus and mineral Aromas of grapefruit, verbena and lemon zest, with subtle grilled nut and flinty edges.
