Chandon, a luxury sparkling wine brand, was founded sixty years ago by Robert-Jean de Vogüe and his friends who wanted to redefine the industry. They travelled to different countries including Argentina, California, Brazil, China, India, and Australia to rediscover the perfect blend of sparkling wine. The brand took risks in their pursuit of excellence, including establishing a vineyard in Victoria, Australia, in 1982. Oenologist Tony Jordan was tasked with finding the perfect land for the vineyard and chose the Yarra Valley for its cool-climate and diverse terroir. The first cuvees were released in 1989 under Tony Jordan’s leadership. Chandon Vintage Brut 2017 is a celebration of the finest cool climate sparkling grapes, telling a unique story from a singular period in time. The fantastically cool vintage of 2017 has gifted us with a captivating expression of the flagship wine, showcasing elegance and finesse. Upon pouring, the wine exudes freshness and vibrancy, with a burst of citrus zing, succulent peach and the alluring essence of frangipani, complemented by a whisper of sea spray. The palate is generous and complex, with delicate toasty nuances reminiscent of oatmeal biscuit from extended time on lees. The creamy texture and layers of complexity are a result of the methode traditionnelle with 5 years age on lees. 90% of the fruit comes from the prestigious Whitlands vineyard, with 850m elevation and red soil contributing to the wine’s tight acidity and purity of fruit. A small amount from other prestigious regions is blended for added complexity. Chandon Vintage Brut 2017 is a wine that can elevate any moment, from casual gatherings to unforgettable occasions. Light yellow colour, steely, lemon juice aromas, the palate delicate, refined and restrained, tense and dry, with a lingering lemony aftertaste. The palate is tight fine and very dry, the invigorating acidity drawing out the long finish.
